Skip new plastics/polyesters & go greener
Less than 10% of plastic gets recycled! Prioritize re/upcycled, natural, organic or otherwise sustainably-certified materials/production. Consider end of life.

Support the brands you want to see succeed
Share the love for small and minority-owned businesses, local- and USA-made gear as well as companies, like B Corps and Fair Trade Certified, trying to do better.

Give gifts with a give back
Extra-thoughtful gifts await with items that (transparently!) donate proceeds back to a cause or otherwise support the makers and artisans behind them.

Choose energy-efficient gear
Go with solar-powered, rechargeable, LED and other sources that are built to last, reduce battery waste and save energy in the long run.

Include more “consumables”
Include items like food and drink or personal care that can be enjoyed, sampled and ultimately used up to leave less waste behind.

Reduce packaging waste & transport footprint
Find gifts with minimal, plastic-free, and otherwise curbside recyclable paper- based packaging (beware the biodegradable claims!). Plan ahead to ship slow!

Add a digital or experiential element
Pair a creative product with a digital gift card, ebook, online subscription/ membership, workshop, etc. to minimize the environmental impact.

Gift thoughtfully… or don’t gift at all!
Know your audience and promote reusability and longevity with only quality products. Provide education on the choices made to inspire sustainability.
